Checking your rent account

Up-to-date balances on rent accounts and advice on rent payment methods are available on request from our Housing Staff.

Arrears management

We aim to minimise the level of current tenant arrears in a sensitive and supportive manner based on advice and counselling.

We promote effective communication with tenants proactively encouraging a positive payment culture. Advice and guidance is available for tenants who have difficulty in paying rent, with useful information leaflets available.

Recovery of Possession of property is a last resort.

Money and Welfare Advice is available in partnership with the Local Authority and the Citizens Advice Bureau. Contact details are contained here in our Rent Arrears Leaflet.

Housing benefit

A joint working initiative between West Lothian Council Housing Benefit Section and Almond is in place. This means that a member of the Housing Benefit procesing team is located in Almond's office. Housing Benefit forms are available from our office, with support and guidance provided by staff in completion of forms and review of information to ensure the process is uncomplicated for applicants.

Affordability and Comparibility

We aim to set rents that are affordable and we will seek to ensure that our rents are broadly comparable with other social landlords as set out in our Rent Policy.

How your rent is calculated

Our standard Rent Setting process is a points based system, which awards points for specific property characteristics. The total points accumulated for these are multiplied by a value for each point, called 'price per point.'

The Rent Policy is available from our Policy download section.
