The Association was founded in 1994 and following a successful ballot of Livingston Development Corporation tenants took ownership of several hundred houses in Craigshill and Howden. Further purchases of stock as well as new homes designed and built by the Association bring the total stock number to over 2300 properties. The allocation of available properties is based on housing need, and the Association is a founder partner of the Common Housing Register which allows individuals to apply to a number of local landlords by completing a single form. Almond Housing Association is a member of the West Lothian Strategic Alliance (WLSA) comprising four locally based Registered Social Landlords. The Alliance aims to build 600 new properties for rent in the period to 2009. Almond Housing Association is carrying out the Development Programme on behalf of the WLSA.
